XDS in Africa
In 2002 in conjunction with local investors, XDSData Limited (Ghana) was formed and became the country’s first credit bureau. Today it dominates the credit and demographic data market in Ghana.
Matching is achieved using available identity numbers such as social security, driver’s licence and passport numbers, combined with advanced demographic data matching algorithms.
The depth and quality of the data has enabled our analytics team to build a generic credit score based on bureau data – the first in Africa outside South Africa and one of only a few such scores available anywhere in the world.
XDS Credit Bureau (Nigeria)
Formed in 2003, XDS Credit Bureau (Nigeria) was the first licensed credit bureau in the country. One of the three bureaux, today it is the only independent bureau in Nigeria.
As in Ghana, matching is achieved using available identity numbers such as social security, driver’s license and passport numbers combined with advanced demographic data matching algorithms.
XDS Zimbabwe was established in 2011 and XDS has worked with local investors and the regulatory authorities to revive Zimbabwe’s credit economy. Given the history of credit granting in Zimbabwe, the technology and skills of our partners and the rapid economic growth being experienced by the Zimbabwean economy, we expect XDS Zimbabwe to be a major force within the credit industry.
In all three countries we have worked with and assisted, the central bank and other regulatory authorities to formulate the legal and regulatory framework, and organised the credit granting community by acting as a catalyst.
In this task we have used the reporting, rights of access by the public to their data and affordability and over – indebtedness concepts contained in the South African National Credit Act as our guideline.
